Good Afternoon;
Welcome to Day 2 of our Woods Charter School adventure. Yesterday we toured a local coffee farm.Who knew it took that much work to make coffee, and there are so many steps involved.

First we hiked to the fields and picked the red coffee berries.

                Then we pulped the berries with man made energy, cycling on a bicycle. Then the berries would be fermented in a bag for 48 hours followed by drying in the sun for a few weeks.  Then the beans are shelled by a machine. At that point the beans are either shipped green to USA where they are roasted or roasted locally by the farmers in the coop.

We watched the  farmer's wife roast the beans over an open fire and then she ground the beans by hand. Wow the coffee was excellent, smooth dark roast.

Today we hiked Pacaya, more details to follow later.... We are heading to the market!!
